Solidarity Connects Project Teams Renovating Recovery Program
Wolverine Update
In downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, one non-profit approaches displacement as an opportunity for recovery. For people struggling with substance abuse, Guiding Light offers stable housing and employment while participating in their recovery programs.
Wolverine Building Group recently worked with sub-contractor partners to expand and renovate Guiding Light’s exercise facility. During the recovery program, the workout room becomes a space to concentrate energy that was formerly placed in dependence. Building strength instead of relying on substance, sober living often depends on replacing old habits with healthy ones.
Wolverine worked with several sub-contractors to donate labor and supplies to transform the once cramped workout room into a large space with room for multiple machines, building with materials designed to outlast the typical wear and tear of the old room. Our project manager worked hand-in-hand to secure plans and materials that would create a space of dignity for participants in the program.
Our teams of carpenters worked side by side with Guiding Light program participants to renovate the space, enriching the relationship between the two organizations and the overall construction process.
In an act of solidarity and intention toward wellness, the Wolverine team offered to take a “Sober October” pledge, making a financial commitment to Guiding Light for every team member offering to abstain from alcohol for the month of October. Over 20% of the company took the pledge!
