Restoration of Harris Building Begins

Grand Rapids, MI – (May 17, 2013) Developer Harris Lofts, LLC and Wolverine Building Group have begun the initial stages to restore the historic Harris Building in downtown Grand Rapids, located at 111 S. Division.

Wolverine Building Group and architect Landmark Design Group are collaborating on the renovation of the nearly 110-year-old building, which has served as a brewery, a furniture company, and the top two floors were home to the Knights of the Pythias.

The first tenant of the renovated facility will be the Local Epicurean, a locally-owned organic pasta company which will have retail space as well as a restaurant and teaching kitchen in the street level of the Harris Building. The building will also be a venue in 2013 Art Prize competition.

Wolverine has been very active in the redevelopment of the Heartside District. They have completed many historic renovations downtown, including 101 S. Division, Division Park Avenue, and Serrano Lofts, all on Division Street. “Heartside is a vibrant neighborhood, bustling with redevelopment. It’s exciting to be a part of this transition,” says Wolverine’s project manager Dulane Coval.

The ground floor renovation, the first phase of the project, is scheduled for completion in late spring 2013. Future phases for the balance of the building are still under development.
