Max's South Seas Hideaway

Grand Rapids, MI

Project Overview

Wolverine Building Group renovated a former event venue in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan to create Max’s South Seas Hideaway, a world-class Tiki bar and restaurant.

The project involved transforming an underwhelming two-story building into a one-of-a-kind tropical oasis. The Tiki bar and restaurant features three distinctive bars throughout including a bar that resembles a life-sized ship on the second floor. It also features unique dining and seating options including private lounges and has a sizeable saltwater aquarium filled with tropical fish to entertain guests. It’s the only Tiki bar and restaurant of its kind in the state of Michigan and has drawn visitors from New York and California.

The project was challenging due to its aggressive schedule. It had an extremely accelerated construction timeline in order to meet the owners’ grand opening date. It also required our Project Superintendent to coordinate several world-famous Tiki artists, in addition to trade partners, who needed to complete installations throughout the restaurant. There were many moving parts while work was being completed. Despite these challenges, the project was completed on time and under budget resulting in a highly satisfied owner.
