Universal Design Directs Accessible Office Buildout, Renovation

Project Overview

Wolverine completed this tenant build-out for the Disability Advocates of Kent County. The project is housed within the Unified Sports & Inclusion Center, owned by Special Olympics of West Michigan.

The portion of the facility that is occupied by Disability Advocates houses two conference rooms, 26 private offices, common areas for open offices, and a small kitchen. A unique feature of the project is the home accessibility center, a model home designed to help people with new disabilities adjust to daily life. The home accessibility center includes a bedroom, bathroom, multiple types of toilets, and a shower.

For this community-driven project, Disability Advocates requested that Wolverine maximize participation of DBEs (disadvantaged business enterprises), including minority-, women-, and veteran-owned trade contractors. We are proud to have achieved approximately 20% DBE participation.
