22,000 SQ FT
TEMPORARY HOUSING COMMUNITY FOR AT-RISK YOUTH
Project Overview
Wolverine Building Group completed the new construction of Covenant House Grand Rapids, a 22,000-square-foot temporary housing shelter for youth ages 18-24 who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
The project involved the erection of a single three-story building with 7,000 square feet of office space and 15,000 square feet of residential living space. The first floor consists of office space and multi-purpose rooms including a meeting room, prayer room, break room, and a computer lab. The second and third floors consist of private living quarters, bathrooms, a community kitchen, and shared community spaces.
The project is located next to the Covenant House Academy of Grand Rapids, which posed safety concerns for the neighboring school. A heavy amount of communication and coordination was required to ensure the project progressed while keeping the school safe and operational during construction.
