GAINES TOWNSHIP, MI — A Kentwood-based development firm says it hopes to begin construction by late next month on a 200,000-square-foot industrial building on 60th Street SE near Patterson Avenue in Gaines Township.

The structure, which could host multiple businesses, will provide space for distribution, warehousing and logistics, or light manufacturing, said Natalie Amrhein, sales and leasing agent at Robert Grooters Development Company.

“It’s putting industrial space on the market, which there is a lack of,” she said.

She added it’s becoming “very hard to find” industrial space of 50,000 square feet and above.

No clients have signed on to lease space at the building yet, but Grooters Development Company is “working with a few” potential tenants, Amrhein said. Overall, the early projected cost estimate for the facility is more than $9 million. Amrhein said the project could take about a year to complete, but she’s hopeful it could be complete by late fall “if everything lines up perfectly.”
The industrial building is located near M-6, which provides “high visibility and prime logistical building access,” according to a press release. It also is slated to include multiple dock and grade-level doors and high-energy efficient motion-activated lighting.
“Our clients have been seeking space near Middleville and nearer to operations in mid-state,” said Robert Grooters, owner of the 49-year-old company. “With this new facility, we will solve expansion challenges for Michigan companies ready to grow.”
Wolverine Building Group is serving as the architect and general contractor.
Robert Grooters Development Company says it has built over 25 million square feet of manufacturing, warehouse and office space in West Michigan.
