Morton Township Library Celebrates Grand Opening

Mecosta, MI – (April 27, 2012) Morton Township Library is pleased to announce the grand opening and dedication of their renovated and expanded facility at 110 South James Street in Mecosta, Michigan.

Wolverine Building Group and C2AE worked together on the 10,000 square foot addition and 5,000 square foot renovation to the existing library. The new open floor plan promotes community activity, recreational reading, and the desire for learning. New library features include a quiet reading room, a large community room, large and small meeting rooms, new staff areas, literacy instruction rooms, a designated teen area, and a children’s programming area.

Sustainability and community growth was given high priority during the planning and construction of the new library. Local subcontractors and suppliers were hired for the project, and the team utilized environmentally-friendly building materials and methods. The 2.7 million dollar construction project would not have been possible without several sources of donations, grants, and federal funding from the Community Facilities Program at USDA Rural Development allowing the community of Morton Township to expand the library. Sources include the taxpayers of Morton Township providing revenues to repay the bond and donations from individuals, organizations, businesses, contractual townships and special Memorial Funds. Grants were received from the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Program, the Robert C. Reinhardt Library Fund, the Lawrence Sanders Foundation Match program, the Great Lakes Energy People Fund, the Tri-County Electric People Fund, and the Mecosta County Community Foundation Match Fund. In addition, the Morton Township Library Board Members, past and present, with the Friends of the Library and many community members have been working to bring this project to reality since 2003.

Join the Morton Township Library for their grand opening celebration and dedication ceremony on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 2 p.m. at 110 South James Street, Mecosta, Michigan. They are also pleased to invite community members to their Dedication Week, featuring speakers, musicians, and children’s theater. Please visit for a complete listing of events.
