“Cottage 36” Renovated and Open

October 15, 2012 (Traverse City, MI) – Owners Mike and Bob Jacobson and general contractor Wolverine Building Group are pleased to announce the grand opening of Cottage 36 at Grand Traverse Commons, the latest in a series of renovations on the former state hospital campus. General contractor Wolverine Building Group and architect Concept Design Studio collaborated in the extensive renovation of the 32,000 sq. ft., four-story building. Originally serving as a residence hall for workers at the hospital, Cottage 36 has been renovated into 29 high quality affordable housing units. The living spaces feature modern, energy-efficient amenities with highend and historically accurate finishes including refinished plaster and exposed brick walls, and custom wood trim and doors.

Located just one mile from downtown Traverse City, Cottage 36 is within walking distance of all of the excellent services and events that downtown has to offer. Wolverine Building Group, Concept Design Studio, and sustainable consultant Catalyst Partners are submitting the project for LEED certification, with a goal of Silver Level certification. Wolverine’s project manager Marcus Ringnalda says, “It was a privilege to work with the Jacobsons and Concept Design Studio to rehabilitate this 100-year-old building in preparation for another 100 years. The reconfigured interior space and newly constructed loft style units in the attic will provide an excellent housing option for Traverse City Residents.”

The project utilized Michigan State Historic Tax Credits and MSHDA Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
