79 YEAR OLD WOLVERINE BUILDING GROUP HAS NEW OWNERS
Jonker, joined Wolverine in 2007 as a Project Manager, he became Vice President in 2010 and was promoted to Co-President in 2016. Jonker, specializes in ground-up multi-unit construction involving both State and Federal Historic Tax Credit compliance as well as LIHTC funding. Aaron has overseen some of Wolverine’s most complex historic renovation projects, many of which have receive the Michigan Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation.
Mulder, recognized as an expert within the construction and development industry, has vast experience in all aspects of the business. Mulder has been with Wolverine for 20 years, starting out as an intern and working in the field while attending Calvin College. In 2000 Mulder joined the team as a Project Manager. He was promoted to Vice President in 2010 and Co-President in 2016. Mulder has a wide spectrum of project experience in the industrial, office, healthcare, education and multi-unit residential markets, locally and nationally. They purchased the company from Mike Kelly and Dick VanderZyden. VanderZyden will serve as Chairman for the next 2 years.
“Over the past 18 months, we have worked hard to make sure the transition for our employees, clients and business partners has been as smooth as possible,” said Mulder.
Wolverine Building Group has 141 employees and specializes in industrial, healthcare, retail, restaurant, and multi-unit residential construction projects. Wolverine has built some of downtown Grand Rapid’s most iconic landmarks including the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Spectrum Health’s Meijer Heart Center, the Hauenstein Center at Mercy Health and Riverhouse Condominums. Wolverine has national capabilities, and has done work in 49 states. In 2017, Wolverine opened an office in Detroit to keep up with the growing demands of the market. They are currently working on 4 major projects in Southeast Michigan, with several more in the pre-construction phase.

In October of 2017, Wolverine promoted Jamerson Ries, Troy Redman and Bill Pursifull to Vice Presidents. Ries and Pursifull will lead their multi-family residential division and Redman will be leading their Construction Management division. “Jamerson, Troy and Bill have proven to be leaders within our company and the industry. We are excited that we can provide them with the opportunity to take leadership roles with in our company.” said Mulder.
In November, they hired Kim McLaughlin as their Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement. “We have a strong sense of responsibility that as an industry and business leader, Wolverine plays a role in making a meaningful impact on our community. Curt and I look forward to working with Kim to identify and define our role as a Corporate Citizen in West Michigan”, said Jonker.
